Crowns and bridges in DLF Phase 2, Gurgaon

A crown covers and protects a tooth that is too damaged to hold an ordinary filling. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring to the teeth on either side. Both are about keeping what you have working properly.

When a crown is the right answer

A filling replaces missing tooth structure. A crown replaces the outer surface entirely, and is usually advised when:

  • A tooth has had a root canal and has become brittle
  • A large old filling has broken, or keeps breaking
  • A tooth is cracked and needs holding together
  • Too little sound tooth remains to support a filling
  • A tooth is badly worn down by grinding
  • An implant needs a crown fitted on top

What crowns are made from

Zirconia and ceramic crowns look closest to natural teeth and are the usual choice for teeth that show when you smile. Porcelain-fused-to-metal is a long-established option with a metal substructure for strength. Full metal crowns are rarely chosen for appearance but remain hard-wearing for back teeth.

The right material depends on which tooth it is, how hard you bite, and how visible it is. We will explain the trade-off rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.

How a bridge works

A bridge spans a gap by joining to the teeth on either side, which are prepared and crowned to carry it. It is fixed in place, so it does not come out for cleaning like a denture.

The trade-off is that healthy neighbouring teeth have to be trimmed to hold the bridge. If those teeth are sound and untouched, an implant is often the better long-term choice because it leaves them alone. If they already need crowns anyway, a bridge can make good sense. We will set out both honestly for your specific gap.

What the appointments involve

The tooth is numbed and shaped to make room for the crown. An impression or digital scan is taken, and a temporary crown protects the tooth while the permanent one is made. At the second visit the fit, bite and shade are checked before it is cemented.

A temporary crown is deliberately weaker than the final one, so avoid very hard or sticky food on that side until it is replaced.

Making them last

Crowns and bridges do not decay, but the tooth underneath still can, and the gum margin is where problems start. Clean around the edges carefully, and use floss threaders or interdental brushes under a bridge — ordinary flossing cannot reach there.

If you grind your teeth, a night guard protects the work. Grinding is one of the more common reasons crowns fail early.

What it costs

TreatmentTypical range
Crown, per tooth₹8,000 – ₹20,000

Crown cost depends on the material and the tooth. Bridges are quoted after assessment, because the price depends on how many teeth are involved. These are indicative ranges, not a quotation — your exact cost is confirmed after an examination, before anything begins.

Common questions

How long does a crown last?

With good cleaning and no heavy grinding, many crowns last well over a decade. What usually fails first is the tooth underneath, through decay at the gum margin, rather than the crown itself.

Crown or bridge or implant for a missing tooth?

An implant leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched and preserves bone, but costs more and takes longer. A bridge is quicker but requires trimming the adjacent teeth. We will explain which applies to your case rather than pushing one.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The tooth is numbed for the preparation appointment, so you should feel pressure rather than pain. Some sensitivity between the temporary and permanent crown is normal.

Will the crown match my other teeth?

Shade is matched at the fitting appointment. Tell us before treatment if you are also considering whitening, because crowns do not change colour and are matched to your teeth as they are on the day.
